Residents of Damaturu, Yobe, have lauded President Muhammadu Buhari, for his proposed N500 billion social intervention programme and the fight against corruption and insurgency.

They expressed their delight while reacting to the president’s national broadcast on Sunday to mark the 17th anniversary of Democracy Day.
The respondents commended government for considering economic diversification by focusing on solid minerals and agriculture, noting the measure will create more jobs and enhance the country’s revenue profile.
They further expressed optimism that the existing economic hardships that Nigerians have experienced in the last one year notwithstanding, there are better days ahead.
A retired civil servant, Alhaji Bukar Musa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu that Buhari was on a “salvation mission.”
According him, the meticulousness of the leadership style of the president gives hope for a better Nigeria.
In his assessment, Buhari’s greatest success in the first year has been recorded in the fight against corruption and insurgency.
In his contribution, a businessman, Alhaji Haruna Babale, said the Buhari administration had taken bold policies including the increase in pump price of petrol which has now guaranteed availability of petrol in Nigeria.
Also speaking, an applicant, Mr Mohammed Alkali, said the social intervention programme announced by the president will create jobs for teeming youth roaming the streets and alleviate poverty of many Nigerians.
A house wife, Mrs Hauwa Mustapha, also noted the president’s concern, saying “the presidential address was specific on the plight of women and I am sure Buhari will give us the desired attention”.
Hauwa appealed to the Niger Delta militants to eschew violence in their region as “unfortunately, mothers, wives and children are always the major victims of violence as experienced here in the North east”.
